Project

The project focuses on conservation, research and wise use of wetlands in the Czech Republic in connection with fulfilling the obligations of the Czech Republic under international environmental protection agreements. The aim of the project is to ascertain the current status of wetlands in the CR, including their area and distribution, ascertain the biodiversity of wetlands, and improve knowledge and increase public awareness about the fundamental and irreplaceable role and function of wetlands in the landscape. The project also pays due attention to certain human activities that significantly influence the status and function of wetlands and their existence, i.e., interaction between wetlands and agriculture, wetlands and mining and the mutual influence of wetlands and climate change. The project is executed through cooperation between the Beneficiary and the project partners.

The activities of the project respect priorities of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic in the field of conservation, research and sustainable use of wetlands in the Czech Republic, are relevant to the State programme of Nature and Landscape Conservation and implementation of international conventions in the field of nature protection especially Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

The project is financialy supported by EEA funds 2009-2014 in the framework of the programme CZ02 – Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. Total budget of the project is 27 772 000,- CZK. 80% of the fees will be covered with EEA funds and 20% with the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.
